Carla Smith speaking at an event

A talk that speaks
to your people.

Every audience brings a different context. I begin by understanding who will be in the room, what prompted the event and what you would like people to take from it.

Workplace wellbeing

Open a conversation about everyday pressures, priorities and the space people need beyond work and responsibilities.

Business and networking

Bring a practical perspective to conversations about confidence, personal growth and the challenges of working life.

Community and shared interests

Connect the talk to what matters to your group, with opportunities for people to reflect and share their perspectives.

Themes we can explore

Real experience.
Practical insight.

I bring lived experience and a background in finance, HR, leadership and running a business. These themes are starting points for a conversation; we shape the focus around your audience and the purpose of your event.

Confidence and finding your voice

Explore self-belief, expressing yourself and taking practical steps through difficult circumstances.

Stress and mental overload

Reflect on competing demands, identify what matters and consider a more intentional approach to everyday pressures.

Balance and personal growth

Make room for interests, relationships and activities that give life meaning alongside work and responsibilities.

More than listening.
Space to reflect.

01

Understand your audience

Tell me who is attending, the context for the event and what you would like the talk to help people consider.

02

Shape the session

We agree the focus, format and duration, along with the practical arrangements for your event.

03

Invite participation

I share ideas and practical perspectives, with questions and moments for reflection that help people engage with the content.

My style is direct, empathetic and grounded in real experience. I encourage people to participate through questions, reflection or writing things down. A talk can offer a useful starting point; putting the ideas into practice is what follows.

Practical questions

Before your
event.

Can you help us choose a topic?

Yes. Tell me about your audience and what you hope the session will address. I ask questions to understand the outcome you want and help shape an appropriate focus.

How long is a typical talk?

I usually speak for around 30 to 40 minutes. We discuss the duration and space for participation when planning your event.

Do you offer online and in-person talks?

Yes. I offer both formats, with in-person speaking usually at the organiser’s venue. I prefer to use slides where possible; we can discuss the setup and any travel needed.

What do you need before an event?

Please share your preferred date, audience, approximate numbers, topic or objective, format, duration and location. I need at least two weeks to prepare, subject to availability. Fees and any recording or photography arrangements are discussed individually.

How is a talk different from a workshop?

A talk presents ideas and perspectives, with opportunities for participation. Workshops allow more time for exercises, discussion and practical work in a smaller group.
